The 127th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam will be observed today (Monday) across the country through various programmes celebrating his life, works and enduring legacy.
The Ministry of Cultural Affairs has organised a three-day programme starting from May 23 at the Nazrul Academy premises in Darirampur, Trishal, Mymensingh - an area closely linked with the poet's childhood memories.
In separate messages, the President and the Prime Minister paid rich tributes to the national poet on his birth anniversary.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin said Nazrul's ideals of equality, humanity, rebellion and love would continue to inspire people across generations.
On the eve of the anniversary, the President described Nazrul as one of the brightest stars of Bangla literature and culture.
He noted that Nazrul made outstanding contributions to Bangla language and literature through his multifaceted creative works as a poet, musician, novelist, playwright, essayist and journalist.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said in his message that Kazi Nazrul emerged at a time when the nation needed a powerful voice to awaken and inspire it towards self-reliance.
