KCC announces over Tk 3.32b budget

KHULNA, June 17: Khulna City Corporation (KCC) has announced over Tk 3.32 billion budget for the 2008-09 financial year, levying no new taxes.
KCC Acting Mayor M Moniruzzaman Moni announced the budget Tuesday in the presence of local journalists, ward commissioners and elite.
The proposed budget shows Tk 436.9 million as the total expenditure from its own fund, while over Tk 2.89 billion as development expenditure from government fund.
"It is a development-oriented budget, and there is no new tax imposition proposal in it," the mayor-in-charge said.
In the budget Tk 939.9 million was allocated for works purpose, Tk 29.0 million for developing water supply system, Tk 67.5 million for public health sector, and Tk 129.6 million for conservancy.
Besides, adequate provisions were also made for increasing civic amenities of the city dwellers, which included provision for setting up of a specialised hospital and private university in the city as well as development of its environment.
The city mayor said the long cherished WASA is being formally implemented in the city from July 1. He also solicited active cooperation of the city dwellers in implementing the proposed budget.
