KHULNA, Dec 13: Khulna City Corporation (KCC) is going to start drive soon to increase the revenue income of KCC from the holders of non-trade license and renewable trade licence.
KCC source said that there were about eighteen thousand business organizations under KCC's license department, which had to renew those every year. Besides, newly establish business organisations were issued trade licence. Minimum charges were being taken as fees from the traders for their trade licences and their renewal.
However, the Board of Revenue imposed additional tax of Tk 1000 on each trade license holder during the last two years, later it was reduced to Tk 500 only. There is a provision to give income tax at the same rate from tea stall to big enterprises. As a result, the small traders are in great difficulties to pay their additional tax imposed by the board of revenue.
In this situation, the license department of KCC faced difficulties. Business community is stopping to takeout new trade licence or renew the old ones. As a result the realisation of revenue income from trade licence sector has fallen.
License department source said that most of the licence previously had been renewed before the month of September and the revenue income was more than Tk 20 million during the period every year. This year three months have already elapsed since the schedule time of taking out new licence and renewing old ones. But the concerned department could only collect about Tk 10,0000 only. That is the reason for conducting the drive soon, source said.
Licence officer Nazrul Islam said that measures would be taken against those who were violating the municipality act and fine with surcharge would be levied on those who did not take out licence.
The business community demanded of the concerned authority that the small traders would be absolved of paying the additional tax.
