KCC tax collection increases

KHULNA, Apr 18: Realisation of all kinds of taxes of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) has increased due to receiving through bank. The realisation of tax has been increased two-fold during the last 6 months than the previous record. Sources said that KCC started to realise all kinds of taxes through bank from October last year. About Tk 64 million has been realised during the last six months until March 3 this year. In contrast about Tk 36.9 million had been realised during the previous six months. Vast irregularities has been found about the collection of holding tax, licence fees and other transaction. KCC source said that task force led by Army has found irregularities in the KCC during the Caretaker period. KCC Chief Executive Officer and Administrative officer visited Dhaka and Sylhet City Corporation over realisation of tax following a direction of task force and recommended all transactions trough banks. Later it was decided in 20th KCC's General meeting and bank transaction started from October 01, 2010. Bank accounts were opened in 11 branches of Janata Bank of Khulna City Corporation. Sources said that KCC tax department has fixed Tk. 0.2 billion to realise in this financial year. Meanwhile, Tk. 0.11 billion has already been collected as tax during the last 9 months and the tax department expects that the remaining amount will be collected by June 30.
