KHULNA, May 7 (UNB): Khulna Development Authority (KDA) has decided to cancel the lease of Muzgunni Shishu Park in the city for breaching several conditions of the contract and for non-payment of arrears.
The lease holder company has been ignoring the conditions of the contract for a long time, alleged official sources of KDA.
Despite giving reminder several times, the lease holder failed to give any response to the KDA. The decision of cancellation of the contract is now under process.
The sources said the KDA had taken an initiative to set up a park for creating amusement facilities for the city dwellers on 8.67 acres of land in Muzgunni residential area.
To implement the initiative, the KDA called a lease tender for development of infrastructure, lake, boundary wall and open space.
Z M Saiful Islam, owner of SS World in Belfuliar Rajapur area of Khulna, took the lease of the park responding to the tender call for Tk 0.65 million (6. 51 lakh) annually for fifteen years which started on April 18, 2007.
SS World took possession of the park on May 17, 2007 after completing the lease contract with the KDA.
But later the lease holder company started to breach the conditions of the contact.
They set up games and rides at the entrance of the park and the lake of the park was given to other organisation on sub-lease.
They also erected 32 shops and several infrastructures in the park.
The company has also not made any payment to the KDA in the last eight years.
KDA has sent SS World letters 10 to 12 times asking for payment of the arrears but the owner of the company did not give any reply to the letters.
