CHITTAGONG, Mar 8: Western Marine Shipyard will organise a keel laying ceremony tomorrow (Wednesday) to start construction of a catamaran type passenger vessel for Chittagong Boat Club. Ceremony for building of the new ship will be held in the shipyard of the company at Patiya on the south bank of the Karnafuli River. Estimated cost of the ship is Tk 50 million, concerned sources said. Chief of the Naval Staff Vice Admiral Zahir Uddin Ahmed will attend the function as the chief guest. Senior government officials will also attend. The vessel will be operated by Western Marine Services Ltd in the coastal and inland area within the zone of the Karnafuli river up to Kutubdia outer anchorage of the seaport. The 30-metre long ship is designed to accommodate 150 passengers. Such a new ship building in Bangladesh is a sign of emergence of an exclusive ship building in the country. The shipyard is expecting to deliver the passenger ship by January 2012.
