National Garment Workers Federation (NGWF) has urged the authorities to keep the banks open on Saturday and Sunday to help the garments workers draw their salaries.
In a statement Thursday, NGWF president Sahida Sarker and general secretary Amirul Haque Amin said there are 2.5 million garments workers; and a good number of garment factory owners will not be able to pay salaries and bonus to workers if the banks remain closed tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday.
If the workers are not paid their salaries and bonus, the Eid festival will be meaningless for them, the statement added.
