Keeping NICD hospital toilets clean

Friday, 5 January 2024

The government deserves appreciation for expanding the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) hospital from 500 to 1,250 beds. A new building has been built and a number of equipment has been added to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment of cardiac patients.
Most of the cardiologist and cardiac surgeons providing cardiac health services in different hospitals in Bangladesh get education and training from this NICVD in Dhaka. It has been serving thousands of cardiac patients every day for year after year. It can arrange all kinds of cardiac health services, thanks to its doctors, nurses and other staff members. However, the hospitals' toilet facilities are not up to the mark.
Every floor of this cardiac hospital houses toilets for patients and their attendants. Quality high commodes and pans have been set up. But it is regrettable that almost all of those toilets are so dirty that no one can use them. Continuous cleaning is necessary to keep these commodes and pans usable.
Toilet crisis is becoming acuter day by day in this large and modern hospital. It seems that the cleaning team of this hospital is not doing its job appropriately. We urge the authorities concerned to look into this issue sincerely so that they can keep all the toilets clean, hygienic and usable for patients and their attendants.
