Key index crosses 4,600 point-mark

Stocks extended gaining streak for the fourth consecutive session Thursday and the key index of the prime bourse crossed 4,600 point-mark as investors continued to take position amid optimism.
The key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) --- DSEX crossed 4,600 points mark after 12-trdaing session and ended at 4,621.22 points, gaining 25.42 points or 0.55 per cent from previous session.
The other two indices also ended higher. The DS30, comprising blue chips gained 23.64 points or 1.43 per cent to close at 1,670.15 points. The DSE Index (DSES) went up by 6.76 points or 0.67 per cent to close at 1,008.46 points.
Turnover value on DSE improved to Tk 5.18 billion, registering 3.6 per cent increase over the previous session's value of Tk 5.0 billion.
"Positive price movement of particular large cap scrips --- GP, BATBC, Square Pharma and ICB mainly drove up the market's vibe," commented International Leasing Securities.
The investors responded positively on 380 per cent cash dividend declaration of Heidelberg Cement which pushed cement sector up by 1.9 per cent, said the International Leasing Securities.
"Market positivity approached to fourth session and surpassed DSEX beyond 4,600 points level. Since upbeat reversal resumed, investors' perception and market scenario improved further," commented IDLC Investments.  
"The bourse was significantly vibrant to corporate declaration. Consequently, more than expected dividend declaration Heidelberg Cement (380 per cent cash dividend) knocked investors' attention strongly and assisted this to emerge at top gainers' and top turnover list," said the merchant bank.
Besides, five mutual funds also enriched top ten gainers' list. Amid the major sectors, Telecommunications and cement performed well which gained 2.90 per cent and 2.76 per cent respectively while engineering disappointed the investors most with 0.98 per cent loss.
"Selective heavyweight large cap shares of DSE saw strong buying interest Thursday," said LankaBangla Securities.
Rising from the oversold condition, market acted volatile; it opened green and posted zigzag affair in intraday movement as few large cap stocks enticed the investors' eyes, said the stock broker.
Corporate declaration of Heidelberg Cement came out with earnings 14.19 per cent up and 380 per cent cash dividend, it said.
The port city bourse --- the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed higher for the fourth day with its Selective Categories Index - CSCX gained 57.26 points to close at 8,959.05 points.
Lasers beat gainers 106 to 79, with 24 issues remaining unchanged at the port city bourse that traded 7.36 million shares and mutual fund units, turnover value of Tk 369.40 million.
