KfW grant for IDCOL to set up domestic biogas plants

A financing and programme agreement has been signed among the Economic Relations Division (ERD), IDCOL and KfW of Germany for implementation of the National Domestic Biogas and Manure Programme.
Under this agreement, KfW will provide EUR 8.6 million to the government as a grant. The fund will be used by IDCOL for providing soft loans to its 19 partner organisations for construction of domestic biogas plants across the country.
IDCOL has a target of financing 60,000 such plants by 2010. Till date 2,400 biogas plants have been constructed.
Secretary of ERD Md Aminul Islam Bhuiyan, Head of Energy Division-Asia of KfW Klaus-Peter Pischke and Executive Director and CEO of IDCOL M Ehsanul Haque signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations in the city recently.
