KGDCL continuing drive against illegal gas connextions

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 21: The Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited (KGDCL) is continuing drive for checking gas connections in the port-city as per directives of the ministry concerned.
Its first phase of drive for monitoring gas supply in Chattogram ended on November 6. Later, KGDCL continues the vigilance activities following the ministry's directives.
Meanwhile, KGDCL teams inspected a total of 10,100 gas connections in the first phase of drive from September 6 to November 6. Of these, 9,400 were residential gas lines, 500 were commercial lines, 110 were industrial lines, and 19 were CNG stations.
The teams cut a total of 2,000 illegal lines, and also collected a total of Tk 260 million due bills.
KGDCL started the drive in January for monitoring gas supply. But, after corona outbreak, it was suspended. Later, the gas supply monitoring started again in September 6, and continued until November 6. KGDCL is continuing the vigilance until now as per directives of the ministry.
General Manager (Engineering and Services) Md Sarwar Hossain is supervising the monitoring activities, and Manager Abul Kalam is leading the drive.
The company has divided the port-city into 12 zones, and four special teams along with 16 regular teams are now working in the city's different areas. They are finding line leakage, collecting due gas bills, renovating damaged lines, and snapping illegal gas lines.
Md Sarwar Hossain said, "We started identifying leakage in gas lines, and faults in risers. The monitoring was stopped for corona outbreak. Later, we have started it again from September 6."
"We are continuing the vigilance as per directives of the ministry. There are 5,97,985 gas connections in Chattogram under KGDCL. We will continue it until checking all lines in the city," he added.
