Khaleda challenges NBR’s action

Tuesday, 6 November 2007

Detained former prime minister Khaleda Zia, in a writ filed in the High Court Monday, challenged the refusal of NBR to accept her income tax on undeclared income. The petition said, she had deposited Tk 9,45,000 as tax on her undeclared income of Tk 3.6 million, which she earned from house rent. The money was deposited on NBR's advice, issued on September 26. But NBR, in a letter issued on October 4, refused to accept the tax. Rafiqul Huq moved the petition in the division bench, comprising Justice MA Rashid and Justice Miftah Uddin Chowdury. The court is likely to take up the petition for further hearing today (Tuesday). — UNB
