Khaleda gets more time to file written statement

Monday, 27 August 2007

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's (CMM's) Court Sunday re-fixed September 27 for filing a written statement by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Daily Dinkal case, report UNB/ bdnews24.com.
Magistrate Adbullah Hel Baki granted her prayer and set the date for filing the written statement. Khaleda did not appear in the court for the hearing of the case and sought more time through her lawyers.
Lawyers Sanaullah Miah, Masud Ahmed Talukdar, Khorshed Alam and Nawshad Zamir appeared in the court on behalf of her.
Khaleda's lawyers also turned in an explanation to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court for Dhaka, saying Khaleda could not appear in court for "security concerns" stemming from the recent violence across the country.
Earlier, Abdul Mannan, deputy registrar of the Joint Stock Companies and Firms (RJSCF), filed the case against Khaleda Zia, her son Tarique Rahman and nine others on June 12 this year.
In his appeal, the plaintiff said the Companies Act makes it mandatory for a joint stock company to submit annual financial statements, AGM schedule and audited reports to the Office of the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms within 18 months of registration and every year afterwards.
But Dinkal Publication Ltd did not do so, which is a financial crime under law, according to case details. Khaleda is a director of the company.
The nine other accused are: Tarique's business partner Giasuddin AL Mamun, Sheikh Razzak Ali, Nazmul Huda, MA Mannan, Manjurul Ahsan Munshi, Fazlul Azim, Ali Asgar Lobi, Rokonuddin Mollah and AKM Mosharraf Hossain.
They were accused of non-filing audit reports of Dinkal Limited from the year 2002-07.
Meanwhile, a petition was filed Sunday in the High Court seeking cancellation of the permission for publication of Daily Dinkal.
Directors of Dinkal Sheikh Razzak Ali, Rokonuddin Mollah and Fazlul Azim filed the petition.
The petition will come up for hearing today (Monday).
