In an unprecedented gesture, BNP chief Khaleda Zia went Saturday night to the Sudha Sadan home of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's husband Dr M A Wazed Miah who died in the afternoon, reports bdnews24.com.
Khaleda drove to the Dhanmandi 5 home of Dr Miah, to pay tribute to the deceased, a nuclear scientist, at 8:50pm. It was the first time she stepped into the house of Hasina.
The Opposition Leader consoled her arch-rival Awami League chief.
BNP standing committee members Mosharraf Hossain and Moudud Ahmed and Dhaka mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka accompanied her.
Khaleda had also party secretary-general Khandaker Delwar Hossain Saturday evening to postpone the countrywide human-chain protests scheduled for Sunday, her press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan told the news agency.
The protests were to be held at all metropolitan cities, Upazila and district headquarters as part of a series of protests spread over a month to protest power, water and gas crises and 'worsening security'.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia earlier condoled the death and sympathised with Hasina.
