Khaleda govt’s ministers show up at ACC for GATCO corruption scam

Dhaka, Sept 25 (UNB) - Senior ministers of Khaleda Zia’s government
showed up at the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Tuesday in
connection with the container handling corruption case filed by ACC
against the former Prime Minister.
Former Finance and Planning Minister M Saifur Rahman was the first in
queue to attend the questioning by ACC officials regarding the case
that alleged that GATCO got the work of container handling at
Chittagong and Kamalapur inland container depots under the influence
of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. It was alleged that Arafat
Rahman Koko had influenced her mother to get the job done in exchange
of money.
Amidst tight security that prevented reporters from entering the ACC
office at Segunbagicha, Saifur Rahman came to the ACC office at about
10:50am. He stayed for an hour and left the ACC office at 11:50am.
He was followed by former Land and Information Minister M Shamsul
Islam who came at the ACC office at 11:15am. Former LGRD Minister
Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan arrived at 12:01pm.
Asked for his comment about what transpired at ACC, Shamsul Islam
said the matter is sub judice. “So, I can’t say anything.”
Earlier, the ACC sent separate letters to the former Ministers to
turn up at its office today.
