Khaleda has no right to cause public sufferings, says PM

BRUSSELS, Nov 26 (UNB): Questioning the rationale of the November 30 hartal called by opposition BNP, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that Khaleda Zia has "no right to cause sufferings to people by giving hartal just to save her illegally grabbed property."
Addressing her second meeting with Bangladeshi expatriates at her hotel conference room here on Friday evening, she wondered if the opposition leader called the hartal against the verdict of the court.
"She (Khaleda) herself went to the court and the court has ordered her to leave the cantonment house. Why then is she now giving hartal?" Hasina questioned.
She further said: "Khaleda Zia should give compensation to the people for illegally living on an army property for long…explain to the people why she has done business with her Gulshan residence."
The Prime Minister said it was the BNP cabinet which had allocated the Gulshan residence for Khaleda.
She was highly critical of the opposition leader and her party leaders for giving "false blame to ISPR" over the cantonment house issue.
Hasina warned that if BNP continues to cause sufferings to the people in the name of movement to protect Khaleda Zia's illegal property, "people will be bound to think differently" about her Gulshan residence.
"She (Khaleda) illegally lived in an army residence for long and earned huge money by giving her Gulshan residence on rent. People want to know why she is doing business with her residence," she said.
The Prime Minister mentioned that she had left the Ganobhaban immediately after someone's statement that her stay in Ganobhaban would influence the election. "I didn't get any order from the court to leave Ganobhaban. I've not taken any land or property also from the state," she said.
Hasina said her younger sister Sheikh Rehana was given a piece of land in Dhandmoni, which was cancelled by the then BNP cabinet and made a police station on that land. "And being a Prime Minister, Khaleda Zia went to inaugurate that police station."
