Monday, 10 October 2011

The much-hyped road march of the BNP-led four-party alliance from the capital to the saints' city of Sylhet, led by Khaleda Zia, begins today (Monday), aiming to garner public support to force the government to hold the next national election under a caretaker administration, reports UNB. The Awami League-led ruling grand alliance scrapped the caretaker government provision through the 15th amendment to the Constitution on June 30 this year. Leader of the opposition Khaleda Zia will launch the caravan from the BNP central office at Naya Paltan at 10 am. Top leaders of the BNP-led Four-party alliance, including Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Oikya Jote, Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) and Khelafat Majlish, as well as leaders of other like-minded political parties will join the road march. This road march will be the first major political mass contact by the opposition against the nearly three-year-old AL government. Chiefs of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and Bikalpadhara Bangladesh (BDB) will join the road march, Dhaka city BNP convenor Sadeque Hossain Khoka, who is also convener of management committee of Dhaka-Sylhet road march, told reporters at a press briefing at the party's central office Sunday afternoon. He said about 3,000 vehicles will join caravan. The BNP chairperson will address six scheduled roadside meetings on the way to Sylhet.
