Khaleda likely to appear in court Thursday

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is likely to appear before a makeshift court in Old Dhaka on Thursday to attend the hearing of two graft cases filed against her by the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC). When contacted, Khaleda Zia’s counsel Advocate Sanaullah Miah said that hearing in the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case and Zia Orphanage Trust case are scheduled to be held on Thursday in the court temporarily set up in Alia Madrasa ground in the city’s Bakshibazar. He said Khaleda Zia may go to the court where the hearig is scheduled to begin in the morning.
Niko case: Verdict on Khaleda’s writ Thursday
Meanwhile, the High Court is set to deliver its verdict on Thursday on a writ petition filed by Khaleda Zia challenging the legality of the Niko graft case against her after closing arguments in the trial of the case. An HC bench comprising Justice Md Nuruzzaman Noni and Justice Zafar Ahmed fixed the date of the judgement. Khaleda’s lawyer Barrister Ragib Rouf said the HC has kept pending its verdict to be delivered any day after closing arguments in the trial of the writ petition. Earlier on May 28, the same bench concluded the final hearing on the writ filed by Khaleda challenging the legality of the case filed by the ACC on December 9, 2007, according to a news agency.
