Khaleda monitors election campaigns from her residence

FE Report | Sunday, 26 April 2015

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia did not go out for city corporation electioneering on Saturday but she monitored election campaigns from her residence.
She is expected to hold a press briefing at 2:00 pm today (Sunday) to project the overall situation of the country and election atmosphere of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) slated for April 28, according to party sources.
Earlier, the BNP chairperson did six days' electioneering for her party-backed mayoral and councillor candidates of DSCC and DNCC. During her campaigns, she came under attack three times.
The Election Commission (EC) said on Friday that Khaleda Zia could not campaign with motorcade. The EC sent letters to the BNP chairperson and returning officers of DSCC and DNCC.
Meanwhile, BNP called upon the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) to resign if he could not hold free and fair city corporation elections.
"If you (CEC) cannot ensure a free and fair election, then we call upon you to resign," international affairs secretary of BNP Asaduazzaman Ripon told journalists at a press briefing on Saturday at the party's Naya Paltan central office.
