Khaleda out to save war crimes accused: Maya

Monday, 28 November 2011

Dhaka city unit Awami League (AL) general secretary Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya has criticized BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia for what he said 'working against' war crimes trial, reports UNB. Addressing a rally in front of the National Press Club on Sunday Maya alleged that Khaleda Zia is speaking in favour of the war crimes accused with a view to halting the trial of crimes against humanity committed during liberation war in 1971 with the ulterior motive to protect them. He said the demand for trial of the war criminals is a demand of the nation. Bangabandhu Jatiya Jubo Parishad organised the rally, which was followed by forming of a human chain in front of the capital's NPC. The programmes were organized in protest against 'ongoing ploy to halt war crimes trial'. Censuring BNP, Maya urged opposition leader Khaleda Zia to join parliament and come up with constructive criticism of the government considering the welfare of the country and its people. He urged the government to fulfill the expectation of people by completing the ongoing war crimes trial at the earliest, thwarting all conspiracy against the trial. Chaired by Bangabandhu Jatiya Jubo Parishad president Masud Khan Babu, the rally was addressed, among others, by AL leaders Abdul Haque Sabuj, Niaz Mohammad Khan and Talukdar M Jahangir.
