Khaleda shed tears for failing to keep illegal property: AL

Monday, 15 November 2010

Awami League (AL) Sunday said opposition leader Khaleda Zia had shed her tears out of deep sorrow for failure to protect 'illegally captured' land and house worth Tk 5.0 billion, reports UNB.
"Seeing her crying, we also felt bad. But she was crying as she had failed to protect the house that she held illegally," AL's Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif said.
Briefing the newsmen at PM's Dhanmondi office in the afternoon Mr Hanif said the way former PM had shed her tears for an 'illegal' property was rare in the history of civilized world.
Mr Hanif reiterated that Khaleda Zia was not evicted from the house. "She herself had gone to the court and the court has ordered her to leave the house."
Neither AL nor the government had involvement at any stage of the whole process, the AL leader said.
"It was the matter of Cantonment Board and Khaleda Zia. Cantonment Board has performed its duty in compliance with the court order," he added.
About the BNP's statement that the government has evicted Khaleda Zia before the issue was settled by the court Mr Hanif said, Khaleda Zia's lawyers did not submit the appeal before the court. Nor did they seek for stay of operation of the High Court (HC) verdict.
Hanif termed untrue and baseless the BNP claim that Chief Justice had assured the lawyers that she would not be evicted from the house before the legal process completed.
On Khaleda Zia's allegation that she had been evicted forcefully in one cloth the AL leader questioned what had she shifted from the house on November 1, 4, 6 and 9? "In fact, Khaleda Zia has resorted to falsehood to hide her illegal capturing of the cantonment house".
He said Khaleda Zia was not rendered homeless. She had a house at Gulshan. Besides as leader of the opposition she was allotted a government house at Minto Road.
