Khaleda steady, responding to treatment, says Dr Zahid

FE REPORT | Friday, 19 December 2025

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's physical condition is steady, Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, a member of her medical board and the party's standing committee, has said.
He briefed journalists in front of Evercare Hospital Dhaka on Thursday noon.
When reporters asked him whether Khaleda's health had improved in the past few days, he said, "Her condition is stable - you can say that."
He said Khaleda was responding to treatment being provided by both local and foreign doctors.
"Her condition is the same as it was in the last few days. Alhamdulillah, she is maintaining it," he said.
Zahid said the doctors hoped she would recover gradually.
The former prime minister remains admitted to the hospital since November 23.
She is under the care of a medical board headed by Professor Shahabuddin Talukder and includes specialist doctors from home and abroad.
Khaleda has several health complications, including diabetes and problems in kidney, heart, and lungs.
Because of kidney issues, her haemoglobin level dropped but has now increased.
Her kidney function has slightly improved, and her lungs have also shown some improvement.
However, she is still not out of danger. As part of her regular treatment, various medical tests are being conducted.
The BNP earlier said she should be taken abroad for advanced treatment, but this was not possible because she was not fit for air travel. Therefore, her treatment continues in Bangladesh.
After arriving in Dhaka from London, Zubaida Rahman, wife of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, has been visiting her in the hospital every day since last Friday. Zubaida has also been included in the medical board.
Meanwhile, Tarique is set to return to the country on December 25, after nearly 18 years in political exile.
