Khaleda to address public meeting at Paltan tomorrow

Friday, 1 May 2009

Leader of the Opposition and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will address a public meeting at Paltan Maidan tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon, reports UNB.
Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, the labour wing of BNP, will organise the 'Labour Rally' to mark the historic May Day.
It happens to be the first much-orchestrated public rally, which is being seen as politically important because of taking place amid a number of red-hot issues, the BNP chairperson and former Prime Minister is going to address after the December 29 general election that her party and alliance miserably lost out to the Awami League-led grand alliance of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
All units of BNP and its front organisations in the city have taken the event seriously to mobilise party leaders, workers and supporters in the rally for a big showdown to gear up the party for launching movement against the government's recent move to evict Khaleda Zia from her Dhaka cantonment residence and its "failure" in resolving the persisting problems, including electricity, water and gas crises and high prices of essentials.
In an intra-party latest development, two antagonists and key players in Dhaka city BNP politics - ex-minister Mirza Abbas and sitting Dhaka city Mayor Sadeq Hossain Khoka - apparently closed their ranks and are working unitedly to turn the May 2 rally a mammoth gathering.
