Khaleda to get notice next week to vacate cantt house

Friday, 17 April 2009

State Minister for Law Adv Qamrul Islam Thursday said opposition leader Khaleda Zia would receive notice within next week to vacate her house at 6 Mainul Road inside Dhaka Cantonment, reports UNB.
"Process of serving notice by the cantonment board has begun, and she would receive it within next week," he told reporters at the Law Ministry.
Qamurl said the time for vacating the house would be mentioned in the notice. Adequate time will be given to pack her bags.
Asked if she does not relinquish the house despite the notice, he said, "Time will tell what to be done."
In reply to another question Qamrul said they are working in accordance with the cabinet decision taken on April 1. If one side goes for legal remedy, the government will also face that.
He said the cabinet in a meeting on June 12, 1981 gave Khaleda Zia only the Gulshan house. There was no cabinet decision on leasing the cantonment house to her.
However, without the cabinet decision, the Military Estate Office on behalf of the then President "illegally allotted" the cantonment house to Khaleda Zia.
The state minister said the government has not taken any step to evict the BNP central office from Nayapaltan.
