Khaleda wanted military rule, says Tofail

Saturday, 21 June 2014

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia boycotted the January 5 parliamentary polls to create a situation for military takeover.
“Khaleda Zia wanted the military to take over power like what happened in Thailand,” he said addressing the triennial convention of Munsiganj district Awami League at Old Kachari Balur Math Saturday, according to a news agency.
Tofail, who is also a member of the Awami League Advisory Council, said Khaleda was frustrated as the election was held on schedule according to the constitution. Tofail ruled out a new general election before the government’s five-year term ends.
Chaired by the district unit AL President, M Mohiuddin, the convention was also addressed by the party’s General Secretary and Local Government and Rural Development & Cooperatives Minister Syed Ashraful Islam.
