JOYPURHAT, Aug 10 (UNB): BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has called upon her party leaders and activists to remain united and asked them to increase their acceptance for winning the confidence of the people.
"Don't think about those who deserted the party. You have to make your position among the people," the party chief said while talking to the leaders of district BNP, Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal at a teleconference at 10pm Thursday.
Responding to the local leaders' demand for expulsion of the pro-reform leaders, including Mannan Bhuiyan, the BNP chairperson merely said: "That's a matter of time."
The local leaders also requested the party chief not to take back into the party former lawmakers Golam Rabbani and Abu Yusuf Mohammad Khalilur Rahman, who joined LDP deserting BNP, and pro-reformer Abdul Alim, a former lawmaker.
To this request, Khaleda Zia spoke of giving priority to the opinions of the local leaders and workers, hinting at not to take back the "deserters."
Local BNP, Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal leaders wanted to know how the party leaders and workers would help the flood-affected people at different parts of the country.
To the query, the BNP chairperson asked them to stand beside the flood-hit people at their own initiative with caution under the present circumstance. "I also want to be by the side of the flood-hit people," Khaleda Zia said.
District BNP's assistant organizing secretary Ali Hasan Mukta, district Jubo Dal organizing secretary ATM Shahnewaz Kabir Shuvro and district Chhatra Dal president Golzar Hossain, organizing secretary Alamgir Hossain and member Monjur-e-Mowla Palash took part in the teleconference.
