Detained BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia remained firm to her action indicating to her rejection of the new standing committee with Saifur Rahman as acting chairperson, said her lawyer who met her in sub-jail Sunday, reports UNB.
"BNP chairperson is strict to her previous stand," counsel Shamsur Rahman alias Shimul Biswas told journalists after meeting Khaleda, referring to her sacking Abdul Mannan Bhiuyan and replacing him with Khandkar Delwar Hossain as secretary general of the party.
Asked if he had discussed about the BNP's new committee led by Saifur Rahman he said that he would give details at a press conference at his court chamber today (Monday).
He said Khaleda would soon write to the court and the Election Commission (EC) through the jail authority explaining BNP constitution pertaining to the controversy over the formation of new committee.
Biswas had a lengthy two-hour meeting with Khaleda in the sub-jail from 2-30 to 4-30pm. He said they also discussed measures to secure release of BNP leaders and workers and the constitution of the country as well.
"She urged the lawyers across the country to form legal committees for freeing the detained BNP leaders and activists," Biswas added.
Khaleda Zia also inquired about the cases against her. She advised the BNP rank and file to remain united.
