Khaleda's allegation of killing attempt a ploy to foil polls: Hasina

Thursday, 25 December 2008

Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina Wednesday said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's sudden allegation of assassination attempt is a "pretext" either to foil the next week's election or stay away from the election seeing the "mass tide for Boat," reports UNB.
Addressing a big election rally at Gora Shaheed Maidan in Dinajpur, she said the grenade was found five kilometers away from Khaleda's meeting, but she had raised the allegation of an attempt on her life.
"This is nothing but a ploy to foil the polls or stay away from the voting," the Awami League chief told the meeting amid cheers from her supporters.
She said: "Who will kill those who are the patrons of corruption and terrorism… Harkatul Jihad is their creation."
Hasina further alleged that BNP has rewarded the terrorists and killers by giving them nominations for the December 29 polls.
She mentioned that accused in the "seven murder case" Shafiul Alam Pradhan was nominated by BNP for Dinajpur-3 seat, brother of charge-sheeted accused in August 21 grenade attack Abdus Salam Pintu was given ticket from Tangail and brother of Ahsanullah Master's killer was given nomination in Gazipur.
Criticising the BNP-Jamaat rule from 2001-06, Hasina also alleged that Hawa Bhaban had ruled the country during the period, and accumulated illegal money and wealth and smuggled those out of the country.
"Selling out country, looting wealth, taking bribe and smuggling out money were the principles of the BNP's rule," she said.
