Khaleda's bail petition rejected

Thursday, 13 September 2007

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's (CMM's) court of Dhaka Wednesday turned down detained former prime minister Khaleda Zia's bail petition in a corruption case, as it is under the emergency rules that allow no bails, reports UNB.
"Emergency rules do not permit seeking bail at this stage," said the CMM Jalal Ahmed while refusing to entertain the bail prayer of the immediate-past premier and BNP chairperson.
Sanaullah Miah sought permission to "put up" the petition "as per rules", but the CMM declined to take the bail petition because it is "out of provision of the law."
There was a hot altercation between the two sides over the legal matter.
Khaleda Zia, her younger son Arafat Rahman and 12 others were sued with Tejgaon police on September 2 night.
