Khaleda's cantt house hearing today

Monday, 29 November 2010

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court hears today (Monday) the petitions filed by BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia seeking leave to appeal against the High Court ruling that had declared valid the government notice asking her to vacate the Dhaka Cantonment house, reports UNB.
Besides, the apex court will hear her other petitions, including a contempt of court charge against the government over recent "eviction" from the Cantonment house and seeking a mandatory injunction against the government to maintain status quo on the infrastructure of her checked out house.
On October 13, the High Court discharged Khaleda's writ petition and declared valid the house-vacating notice. It, however, ordered the government to allow the former premier 30 days to check out of the house.
On April 8 last year, the government cancelled the lease of the much-talked-about cantonment residence of Khaleda as the "allocation was not made legally."
The disputed residence on nine bighas of land at Shaheed Mainul Road at the Dhaka Cantonment was allocated to the Zia family by then army chief HM Ershad, after the assassination of his predecessor and President Ziaur Rahman way back in 1981.
