The trial judge Basu Dev Roy, who framed charges against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in Zia Charitable and Zia Orphanage Trust graft cases, was changed Thursday, said a Law Ministry release, reports UNB.
Judge Roy, Special Judge with the rank and status of district and sessions judge, was transferred to a similar court in Patuakhali while law ministry's deputy secretary (,joint secretary in-charge of opinion) M Abu Ahmed Jamadar was transferred to Special Judge Court No-3, Dhaka with the status of district and sessions judge, said the release.
During the ongoing trial of the two graft cases at makeshift Special Judge Court No.3 set up at Bakshibazar Alia Madrasah, the counsel for Khaleda Zia had been crying for transferring Judge Roy as the BNP chairperson expressed her 'no confidence' in him apprehending not getting evenhanded justice.
On March 19, the trial began with the framing of charges, followed by testimonies of the prosecution witnesses against accused Khaleda Zia, also former prime minister.
