Khasru’s bail extended

A Chittagong court has extended bail for BNP leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury in two cases. On Jan 20, the BNP’s Chittagong Metropolitan unit President had secured anticipatory bail for four weeks from the High Court in cases of vandalism and arson. Two judges issued the orders on Thursday after Khasru prayed for extension of bail. Metropolitan Magistrate Nur-e Alam Bhuiyan extended the bail for Khasru and eight others until Feb 24 in the case filed with the Chawkbazar police. In the other case filed with the Kotwali police, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Moshiur Rahman extended the bail for Khasru and 13 others until the next date of the hearing of the case. BNP Chittagong Metropolitan unit General Secretary Shahadat Hossain was also among those who were granted bail in these cases. The court also granted bail to Shahadat and eight others in a case with Akbar Shah police. Khasru was on bail in two cases and Shahadat secured bail in three cases, Khasru’s lawyer Mofizul Haque Bhuiyan said. The BNP leaders sought extension of bail at the order of the High Court. Police had filed the cases over vandalism and arson attacks during the BNP-led 18-Party alliance's blockade on Nov 27 last year, according to a news agency.
