Friday, 11 November 2011

NARSINGDI, Nov 10 (UNB): A court in the town Thursday granted bail to Narsingdi district unit BNP president Khairul Kabir Khokon in Circuit House vandalism case. District and Sessions Judge Shahjahan granted the bail when a bail petition was submitted to the court at about 10:30am. The court also fixed Sunday for hearing of the bail petition in another case filed against him for torching a train in Narsingdi rail station on November 2. Over 100 lawyers including Dhaka Bar Association General Secretary Advocate Iqbal Hossain and former general secretary Advocate Mohsin Miah were present to seek bail for former lawmaker and BNP leader Khairul Kabir. DB police arrested Khokon under Section 54 from his Khilgaon residence in the capital suspecting his involvement in the killing of Narsingdi municipality mayor Lokman Hossain. The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Netai Chandra Saha cleared him of Lokman murder charge on November 9 saying that Khokon's name had not been mentioned in the case filed by Lokman's family. However, he was not set free from the prison as the case of torching a train at Narsingdi station is still pending with court.
