Khokon to visit Abbas house
FE Report | Sunday, 19 April 2015
Awami League-backed mayoral candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Syed Khokon said on Saturday that he would visit his main rival Mirza Abaas' house for seeking vote.
"I will visit his (Mirza Abbas) house for seeking vote. She (wife of Mirza Abbas) visited my house, took rest, and offered prayer (Namaj). We entertained her at our level best. I'll too visit their house and seek vote," he told the journalists on the 12th day of his electioneering in the Hazaribagh Daurchar Boro Masjid area on the day.
Earlier Afroza Abbas, wife of Mirza Abbas, visited Syed Khokon's house while she was campaigning on behalf of her husband at the old part of the city.
Mirza Abbas is contesting the upcoming DSCC polls with the symbol mug while Mr Khokon is vying for mayor with the symbol Hilsha fish.
Dhaka city Awami League joint general secretary Hazi Selim MP took part in the election campaign for Sayed Khokon.
He made his mass contact at Kamrangirchar in the afternoon.
Haji Selim had sought his party's blessings for contesting election for the DSCC mayoral post. He retreated from his plan following the party high command's decision.
He campaigned with Syed Khokon at ward nos. 55, 56 and 57 of Hazaribagh and Keraniganj areas on the day. Syed Khokon also campaigned at Gandaria in the evening.
"From the very beginning I am with Syed Khokon. I will continue to do it in favour of Khokon until the election," Haji Selim told the journalists.
"Selim uncle is with me from the very beginning. We are still together," Khokon told the journalists. Mr Khokon visited ward nos. 55, 56 and 57 and some other areas of Hajaribagh and Kamrangirchar on the day.
"Those people served as mayor in the past were also minister. You (voters) give me a chance and allow me to serve the city dwellers," he said.
Dhaka city Awami League president M. A Aziz, central organising secretary of the party A. F. M Bahauddin Nasim, deputy office secretary Advocate Mrinal Kanti Das, former member of parliament Dr Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin and city organising secretary Shah Alam Murad, among others, accompanied him.
Awami League-backed mayoral candidate for DNCC Annisul Huq condemned on Saturday the incident of molestation of women on the first day of Bangla New Year on the Dhaka University.
He demanded exemplary punishment to those responsible for the incident.
"This incident not only defamed the womenfolk but also a brutal attack on humanity," he told the journalists during his campaign at Bardhito Pallabi.
He made campaigns at Mirpur-12, Bardhito Pallabi and Gabtali and requested the voters to cast their votes in favour of table watch. At Nikunju Mr Huq participated with others for cleaning the area.
Mr Huq said that in the forthcoming city corporation elections they were giving priority to women's development.
"When we are making our election campaign with a promise to make a safe city for women, then the incident appeared as a big challenge towards fulfilling our desires and dreams," he said.
"We will establish separate university for women, separate toilet and bus service, health cards, installing close-circuit camera and setting up cultural flourishing centres," he said.
He expressed hope that the law enforcing agencies would find out the culprits and bring them to book.
