Khulna Bar Assoc election held

KHULNA, Nov 28: Awami League-backed grand party alliance panel has bagged 6 posts including president and secretary in Khulna Bar Association election held here Sunday.
The four-party alliance supported panel got 8 posts out of 14 seats including the position of one joint secretary. A total of 908 voters cast their votes in the election.
Twenty-eight candidates from two panels vied for 14 posts. Advocate Parves Alam Khan was elected president bagging 451 votes, while his nearest candidate, from pro-BNP panel Mohammad Younus Sarder bagged 433 votes.
Anisur Rahman Poplu was elected secretary bagging 544 votes, while his nearest candidate Sk. Nurul Hasan Ruba, from pro-BNP forum, got 339 votes.
Zakir Hossain and Kaniz Feteman were elected as vice presidents. Molla Salim Rashid was elected as a joint secretary.
Other office-bearers are M Shariful Alam, Kazi Khalid Hasan, Khan Liaqat Ali, G.M. Abu Musa, Rita, Sayed Ahtashamul Haque and SM Abu Rasel.
Drug peddler sentenced
A mobile court led by ANM Tariqul Islam sentenced a drug peddler to suffer nine months imprisonment under Drug Act at Kalaroa of Satkhira district Sunday.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalaroa thana said the inspector of Narcotic Department Milon Mukherjy arrested Sharif (21), son of Din Mohammad of Bakal area of Satkhira and recovered 200 gm of hemp.
He was brought to mobile court and Magistrate ANM Tariqul Islam handed down the sentence.
