KHULNA, Dec 4: The Khulna business community sought financial and technical assistance of the foreign gas company Chevron for supplying gas through pipeline in Khulna region from Shahbazpur of Bhola.
The demand was raised during a discussion held at the conference room of Khulna Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) recently. They also asked Chevron to supply gas in Khulna area from exploration block number 7.
The discussion was presided over by KCCI President Shaharuzzaman Murtaja and addressed, among others, by Chevron Bangladesh President Steve L Wilson.
Wilson said Chevron has the technical skills to explore gas safely and a survey is being conducted to explore gas in the block 7. He sought help of all concerned in this connection.
Speakers expressed the view that the sick industries in Khulna would become profitable again if the gas supply was available in Khulna through pipeline. As a result, the industries would be profitable, side-by-side, the pressure of electricity would be reduced and Mongla EPZ would be viable to the investors.
Khulna WASA Chairperson Liakat Ali, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology Vice-Chancellor Nawsher Ali, Sundarban Gas Distribution Company Project Director Kamal Uddin Ahmed and KCCI directors Shahadat Hossain Badsha and SM Jahangir Hossain also spoke on the occasion.
