Khulna chamber holds pre-budget discussion

KHULNA, Mar 29: Creating employment opportunity for poverty alleviation, legalislation of undisclosed money and other programmes of the present government will be given importance in the up coming national budget 2009-2010.
National Board of Revenue Chairman and Secretary of Internal Resources Department Muhammad Abdul Mazid said this while speaking at a pre-budget discussion held in the city Saturday at the conference room of Khulna Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI).
The meeting was presided over by KCCI president Shaharuzzaman Mortoza and addressed, among others, by Customs Excise and VAT Commissioner (Khulna) Nurul Islam, Additional Commissioner Income Tax of Khulna region Proshanto Kumar Roy and First Vice president of First Security Islamic Bank Shah Mohammad Shoeb Ali as special guests.
The KCCI directors, elite of the city and renowned businesspersons were also present at the meeting.
The KCCI president strongly protested the cancellation of the project of gas supply through pipeline in ten districts of Khulna division.
The NBR chairman assured the meeting that initiative would be taken about the gas supply in Khulna. He also sought cooperation of all for smooth functioning of the Mongla Port.
Earlier, the NBR chairman visited the Bhomrah land port and met with the leaders of Satkhira Chamber of Commerce and Industry at its office.
