Monday, 9 July 2007

KHULNA, July 8 (UNB): City BNP leader Tariqul Islam Jahir was sent to jail by court orders here Sunday after the end of a six-day remand.
Sources said Kotwali police produced Jahir, Khulna City BNP convening-committee member, before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in the afternoon and sought him on another 7-day fresh remand for further quizzing.
Magistrate Atiqul Islam fixed July 18 for hearing on the fresh remand and ordered Jahir into jail from the police custody.
Joint forces arrested Jahir from his Bhoirab Stand residence on July 2 and the CMM court later granted the six-day remand for interrogating Jahir on July 3.
Police said he gave them "some important clues to some killings in the city, extortion incidents, capturing fish enclosures and about some top BNP leaders" during the remand that ended Sunday.
