Khulna doctors’ strike extended for sine die
Sunday, 6 July 2014
An indefinite strike in all private clinics, hospitals and diagnostic centres in the Khulna city protesting Wednesday’s attack on Gazi Medical Collage Hospital by Khulna University (KU) students entered the second day on Sunday, causing untold sufferings to the patients. The local chapter of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) and Bangladesh Private Clinic, Diagnostic Hospital Owner’s Association originally enforced a 48-hour strike on Saturday. However, the strike was extended for an indefinite period on Sunday. Vice-president of Khulna BMA Dr Sheikh Baharul Alam made the announcement at a press briefing at Khulna Press Club. All private clinics, diagnostic centres, private chambers and hospitals were seen closed during the strike, forcing patients to go back without receiving any treatment, according to a news agency.
