Khulna-Mongla rly line to open by Dec: Minister

KHULNA, Aug 2 (BSS): Railway Minister Md Nurul Islam Suzan said the Khulna-Mongla railway line will open by December this year.
"The ongoing construction of the railway line is expected to complete in three or four months. Most of the work of around 45 km railway line has been completed," he said to journalists while visiting the construction work of the railway line in Rupsha area on Monday.
Funded by the Indian government, the Khulna-Mongla Railway Line Construction Project will end by December 31, 2022.
"Our main challenge was to build the Rupsha Railway Bridge and it is done. Now tracks will be built on the railway line," he said.
Describing various development activities, the minister said the construction work of the Padma Bridge Railway project from Dhaka to Bhanga will be complete by June 2023. And Kustia-Khulna railway communication will resume after completion of the project, he added.
He, however, said import and export will increase through Mongla Port after completion of Khulna-Mongla and Padma Bridge-Bhanga Railway project.
Director General (DG) of Bangladesh Railway Dherendranath Mazumder and DG of Western Railway Ashim Kumar Talukder, among others, were present during the visit of the minister.
Later, the railway minister attended the opening ceremony of a mobile rail museum named after Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Gopalganj Railway Station.
