Khulna observes Immigration Day

Our Correspondent KHULNA, Dec 19: International Immigration Day-2011 was observed here in Khulna as elsewhere in the country in a befitting manner on Sunday. The theme of this year is 'Safe Immigration Development of Economy' A discussion meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room under the auspices of district administration, jointly organized by District Employment and Manpower department, Sonali Bank, BRAC and CSS. As the present government has been working to make the country a middle income one by 2021, the remittance send by the immigrants is an important part of the national economy, said the Administrator of Zila Parishad Shaikh Harun-or-Rashid as the chief guest. The discussion meeting was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner Jamsher Ahmed Khondoker and addressed among others by the General Manager of Sonali Bank Khulna Shawkat Ali and Principal of Teachers Training College Mehedi Hasan as special guest. Earlier, a colourful rally was brought out in the city marking the significance of the day.
