Ki-moon grieved at landslide deaths

The United Nations (UN) Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has expressed grief over the more than 100 deaths resulting from landslides triggered by heavy monsoon rains in Bangladesh and offered assistance from the world body.
"The Secretary-General is deeply saddened by the reported loss of over 100 lives, injuries of over 100 people, destruction and loss of livelihoods caused by the landslide and flooding that hit Chittagong City, the second-largest city in Bangladesh," UN spokeswoman Michele Montas said in a statement Wednesday.
"The United Nations stands ready to assist as required," the Secretary-General said.
He has extended his deepest condolences to the families of those who have been killed or injured in the disaster.
