Kidnapped boy rescued: 5 held

Detective Branch (DB) of police rescued a minor boy from Matlab upazila (South) in Chandpur district on Wednesday, five days after his abduction from Siddhirganj upazila of Narayanganj district. The victim is Khairul Islam, 5, son of Mozammel Haque, a resident of Hirajhil area of the upazila. Police arrested five young men – Mehedi Hasan, 21, Mahbub Alam, 24, Anik, 22, Sarwar, 18, and Rana,21, for their suspected link to the abduction. The arrestees during interrogation told police that they had picked up Khairul from in front of their residence on Feb 15. Later, the kidnappers demanded Tk 1.5 million as ransom to the victim’s parents over mobile phone, said police. Mojammel Haque filed a general diary with Siddhirganj Police Station about his son’s kidnap. Following secret information, a team of detectives of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Mehedi, Mahbub, Anik and Sarwar from different areas of the upazila. The force later, based on information gleaned from them, rescued Khairul from Narayanpur area under Matlab (South) thana in Chandpur district in the afternoon and arrested another suspected kidnapper named Rana and rescued the boy, according to UNB.
