Kidnapped businessman rescued from DU

A leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) is among six people arrested from a Dhaka University (DU) dormitory on Friday for kidnapping a businessman. The arrestees had kept the man, Farhad Islam, at a room in Jagannath Hall of DU. They had also demanded Tk 500,000 as ransom from Islam’s family. The perpetrators have been identified as Management students Anupam Chandra and ‘Himel’, English department student ‘Mamun’, sociology student Srijan Ghosh Sajib, Dhaka College student ‘Bappi’ and a businessman named Arfan Patwari. Sajib is the central Deputy Sports Secretary of the BCL. Patwari was the partner of the abducted businessman. Farhad Islam was rescued from room Number 17, Sajib’s room, in Govinda Chandra Dev building of Jagannath Hall in the afternoon, said Shahbagh Police Station OC Sirajul Islam. He said Islam was whisked away on Thursday night and taken to that room right away. Later, they contacted Islam’s family and demanded the ransom. Police first nabbed Patwari in Central Shaheed Minar area when he went there to collect the ransom. The others were arrested at Jagannath Hall on the basis of information he provided, OC Sirajul said, according to bdnews24.com.
