Killing, body concealing incidents on the rise in Khulna

There has been witnessed an awful increase in the incidents of murder and body concealing in Khulna district in recent times. Police recovered 112 unidentified bodies, either lying in desolate places or concealed, from different places of the district in the past three years. Anjuman Mufidul Islam, a philanthropic non-government organisation, performed funeral of a majority of these bodies. Besides, incidents of forced disappearance of a total of 36 people through abduction took place in different places of the district in the past two years. Human rights organisations’ sources said the number of unclaimed bodies has kept rising due to concealment of the bodies after killing the victims after their forced disappearance through abduction. Anjuman Mafidul Islam sources said at least 112 unclaimed bodies were recovered in the district in the last three years. Of them, 42 unidentified bodies were recovered in 2011, 34 in 2012 and 36 in 2013. In 2013, police recovered two bodies in January, six in February, three in March, two in April and May, seven in June, two in July, four in August, two each in September, October, November and December. Police recovered two unidentified bodies in January, 2013, according to a news agency.
