Killing for free opinion an attack on Constitution: Dr Kamal

Oikyafront's mourning rally for Abrar Sunday

Ganoforum President Dr Kamal Hossain on Thursday said the killing of Buet student Abrar Fahad for exercising freedom of expression is an onslaught on the Constitution, reports UNB.
"I don't call them (who killed Abrar) sons, they're beasts. They kill innocent people. We've turned our sons into animals, and it's very appalling. We must free the country from this appalling situation," Dr Kamal said.
He further said, "Those who are sick can indulge in such acts. A boy was beaten to death in such a brutal way for expressing his own opinion. It's an onslaught on our civilisation, achievements of our independence and the Constitution."
Dr Kamal said people's freedom of expression has been clearly enshrined in the country's Constitution, and killing anyone for expressing dissenting opinion is completely against the Constitution and the State.
Ganoforum arranged the press conference demanding the proper trial of Abrar killing at the Jatiya Press Club.
Abrar, 21, a resident of Sher-e-Bangla Hall of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), was reportedly beaten to death by some Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists of the university unit following his Facebook post opposing some deals with India.
Another reports says, Jatiya Oikyafront will take out a 'civic mourning rally' in the city protesting the killing of Buet student Abrar Fahad.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the steering committee of the alliance at its convener Dr Kamal Hossain's Motijheel Chamber on Thursday.
Talking to the news agency, Ganoforum Executive President Subrata Chowdhury said their meeting strongly condemned the gruesome killing of Abrar for expressing his opinion about the recent bilateral documents with India on his Facebook wall.
To register their protest against the brutal murder, he said the leaders and activists of their alliance will gather in front of the Jatiya Press Club at 3pm on Sunday. "Later, we'll take out a civic mourning rally towards the Central Shaheed Minar."
