Killing of army officers conspiracy against country: Delwar
Monday, 9 March 2009
BNP Secretary General Khondoker Delwar Hossain Sunday said the brutal killing of army officers at the Headquarters of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) is a conspiracy against the country, reports BSS.
Delwar demanded fair investigation into the incident, and trial of and stringent punishment to the killers.
The BNP secretary general said this at a rally organised by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student wing of the BNP, at Muktangan in the city to protest the killing of army officers at BDR Headquarters, Pilkhana.
He prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls of army officers and early recovery of those injured.
Delwar said the brilliant army officers were killed as part of a conspiracy to weaken the country's security and destroy the defence forces.
He conveyed sympathy to members of the bereaved families of army officers and requested the authorities concerned to be sympathetic to the civilians who were killed in the incident.
He urged the government to play a completely neutral role in investigating the incident and said it would be possible to identify the culprits, if the government works on advise of the opposition parties and the concerned experts and lawyers.
Presided over by JCD president Azizul Bari Helal, the rally was addressed, among others, by Opposition Chief Whip Jainal Abedin Faruq, and other leaders of the BNP and its front organisations, including Amanullah Aman, Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu, Nazimuddin Alam, Fazlul Haq Milon, Khairul Kabir Khokan, Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel and Shafiul Bari Babu.
The rally was followed by a procession that ended in front of BNP central office at Naya Paltan.
