Kiron acting mayor of Gazipur city

The court has appointed Councillor Asadur Rahman Kiron to discharge the duties of Gazipur City Corporation mayor, reports bdnews24.com.
Incumbent Mayor MA Mannan is currently in jail in an arson case. Kiron, a councilor from Ward No. 43, officially took charge on Sunday.
A provision allows the panel mayor to be appointed as an acting mayor in the absence of the regular Mayor. But legal complexities over the panel mayors' election delayed the process.
