KJDRP adds suffering to 1.0m people

KHULNA, Mar 22: About 1.0 million (10 lac) people of eight upazillas of Khulna, Jesoore and Satkhira districts have been suffering form permanent water logging due to Khulna Jessore Drainage Rehabilitation Project (KJDRP) implemented by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in 1993 at a cost of Tk 2.29 billion.
The affected people demanded their legal compensation and urged the concerned authority to take necessary measures to mitigate the untold sufferings of the local people.
Thousand acres of land, homesteads, educational institutions, and roads of Jessore Sadar, Avoynagar, Keshabpur and Monirampur of Jessore district, Fultala and Dumuria of Khulna district, Kolaroa and Tala upazillas of Satkhira district have remained totally submerged under water round the year.
