Knit Exposition-2007 begins today

The Third Knit Exposition-2007, an annual event organised for displaying the country's knit products and their backward linkages, kicks off today (Sunday) in the city.
Chief Adviser of the caretaker government Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed is scheduled to inaugurate the three-day long fair at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel today (Sunday).
Finance Adviser Mirza AB Azizul Islam and Energy Adviser Tapan Chowdhury will present as special guests at the inauguration ceremony.
Some 51 stalls will be there at the exhibition.
BKMEA sources said buyers from Spain, the United States of America (USA), Canada, France the United Kingdom (UK), Germany, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Nepal and India are likely to visit the fair.
BKMEA President Md Fazlul Huq speaking at a press conference said that they are expecting around 500 visitors both from local and overseas to visit the fair.
He also said that they had given emphasis this time on the new fashion and designs of local knit products at the fair so that they could attract foreign buyers.
The BKMEA president said that they had planned to organise a seminar on the effluent disposal of textiles to find ways and means to reduce the environment pollution and help grow the sector.
However, the fair will remain open for the general visitors from 10 am to 8 pm except the inauguration day.
The inauguration day will remain open for the public from 1.0 pm to 8.0pm.
BKMEA sources there will be no entry fee would be required to visit the fair excepting business cards of the visitors.
Knit export is contributing to the country's economy to a great extent and until September this fiscal it had exported knit products valued at US$ 1204 million.
The BKMEA has been launching such mega fairs since 2004 to promote the sector and attract increased buyers. But it failed to hold the same in 2006 following political chaos in the country during the period.
